Hebrew School

Our inspiring and dynamic Hebrew School provides a warm and welcoming anchor for young families to come together and connect to Jewish synagogue life here in the Poconos. In accordance with the standards of the conservative movement, attendance at our school is mandatory from the age of 8 for a child to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah in our Synagogue. However, we have classes starting as early as pre K and we encourage you to enroll your child as early as possible as studies have shown that the earlier a child is taught a second language the faster they pick it up. Students and their families are encouraged to attend services at least twice a month studying for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah as well as doing a mitzvah project.   All of our students, by the time they become Bar or Bat Mitzvah, can read basic Hebrew, have a familiarity with the prayers, holidays, Jewish history, the State of Israel and ethical norms demanded of the Jewish commitment to Torah and Jewish values.

Our classes are small and inviting. Our teachers are friendly and inspiring. Our curriculum stesses the ability to read Hebrew prayers as well as learn about Jewish history, holiday observances and Jewish songs and melodies. Our school year coincides with our local public school calendar.  We offer a Pre K-6th graduated curriculum. We recently acquired a Media Center which enables us to show high quality educational films on holidays, Israel, Jewish culture and history.

Music is a basic component each week and we have a well rounded arts and crafts curricular supplementation.  We meet on the first Saturday of each month and every Sunday there after.

We strongly encourage parents and grandparents to learn together with their children or grandchildren.  People of all ages are encouraged to attend on Shabbat morning.

Debbie Smith, our Administrator, as well as being a teacher with our school since 1997, coordinates the programmatic details and communications, while the Rabbi, serves as our Principal.
